Mercedes E Class years to avoid

The Mercedes Benz E-Class is a mid-size luxury sedan made for those who want to enjoy a serene experience behind the wheel. The E-Class is a car that emphasizes technology, comfort, safety, and ease of driving. It is one of the best-sold Mercedes sedan models of all time because it was first released back in 1984.

This also means that there are some E-Class models out there that are indeed better than others. In this article, we are going to tell you which E-Class models you should avoid because they are not the most reliable, nor do most owners deem them to be on a satisfactory level. Given the fact that cars such as these cost a lot of money, not being up to par with other luxury sedans is certainly an issue.

The worst Mercedes Benz E-Class model year is the 1995 model because it was cheap, unreliable, and really because it suffered from many quality issues throughout. The 2006 Mercedes E-Class is also one of the worst E-Class models to ever be released because it suffers from a bunch of issues.

It’s also a good idea to avoid the 2010 E-Class as it also is a car most owners aren’t satisfied with. The car suffers from a bunch of issues and was part of many different recalls, most of which were related to airbag problems.

1. 1995 Mercedes Benz E-Class

The 1995 Mercedes W210 was the first car ever to wear the E-Class model designation. This model was first introduced in 1984, but it wasn’t called the E-Class as the nameplate came later with the 1995 model. The W210 is often regarded as one of the worst Mercedes Benz models to ever leave the factory because of its cheapness.

BMW vs Mercedes: Statistics and Facts

This was the era when Mercedes downright failed to make good cars because the W220 S-Class from that time was also nothing short of underwhelming. The W210 suffered from countless quality issues which made the car feel really cheap. The interior switches, the electricals, the suspension, and the engine were the most complained about components.

However, the worst thing about the W210 is the rust as the W210 is one of the least rust-proofed W210 models of all time. Therefore, we had to include it in our list as it simply can’t compete with the BMW 5-Series from that era, not even by a long shot.

2. 2006 Mercedes Benz E-Class

Out of all E-Class models to ever come out, the 2006 model seems to be the one with the highest number of owner complaints. To make matters worse, the 2006 model experienced most of its issues at low miles which makes the problems even more detrimental. The balance shaft is known to fail prematurely and some owners state that it took more than $4,800 to fix the issue.

Other prominent issues reported for the 2006 model as related to the fuel tank and a bunch of issues with the car’s electronics. A leaking fuel gasket is not a small issue because if you left it unattended, it could even cause the car to burst into flames and completely destroy it.

Finally, the 2006 E-Class never really was all that loved by most customers which lowered the car’s overall customer satisfaction results significantly. Either way, if you do decide to buy a 2006 E-Class, you can as there are examples out there that were taken care of properly. Be sure to do all the necessary pre-purchase inspections and you should be good.

 3. 2010 Mercedes Benz E-Class

The NHTSA also got a few hundred complaints about the 2010 Mercedes Benz E-Class. Most complaints were associated with the airbags and that is why Mercedes recalled the 2010 model a bunch of times. The sad thing is that Mercedes had to do multiple recalls to solve this issue and you are never 100% that they managed to solve them completely.

Another prominent issue with the 2010 model is related to the suspension which is known to corrode and fracture prematurely. The suspension struts also seem to be a sore point for the 2010 model which means that the entire suspension system is not on par with what the E-Class needs to be.

Many reports are also associated with the car’s sound system as the bass amplifier tends to fail a number of times. All of this made the 2010 E-Class a bit of a pickle as no one wants to spend that kind of money and constantly be worried about what is going to fail next. This ultimately leads to low customer satisfaction results.
