Is Suzuki Boosterjet a good engine?

Suzuki Baleno

The Suzuki Boosterjet is an exceptional engine that has been in use since 2015. Unlike the traditional Suzuki Dualjet engine, the Boosterje engine delivers more power. But is the Boosterjet a good engine.

Yes, the Boosterjet is an outstanding engine. This is because it delivers more power, but it’s still economical like the Dualjet engine. On top of that, it provides a smooth ride which is a genuine driving pleasure. However, if you’re not a fan of power and speed, then this is not the engine for you.

History of the Suzuki Boosterjet

Suzuki Boosterjet is one of the engines offered by Suzuki Automobile Corporation. The Suzuki Boosterjet engine family debuted at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show in March. The first Boosterjet engine was the 1.0-liter engine. However, Suzuki also added a 1.4-liter Boosterjet engine, which is more powerful, but consumes more fuel than the former.

Features of the Suzuki Boosterjet

Direct injection

Since Boosterjet engines can directly inject the optimum amount of fuel into the cylinders, they can optimize combustion and hence lower fuel usage. Moreover, they feature six-hole injector nozzles and a high-pressure pump that quickly form the right air-fuel mixture inside the cylinder.

Besides, the design of the intake ports and the piston has been designed to create a strong tumble flow, ensuring cleaner and more stable combustion.

  Common problems with Suzuki Swift

Waste gate

This is a vital part of the engine as it makes it more efficient. The peculiar valve controls boost pressure to prioritize either dynamic performance or fuel efficiency, depending on the driving conditions. In the city, the wastegate opens for more fuel-efficient driving, but when you require acceleration, the valve closes to increase boost pressure providing instant performance and power.

Turbocharged

Boosterjet engines are fixed with a turbocharger that uses the energy of the exhaust gases to drive turbines and force-feed compressed air into the cylinders. As a result, users can instantly feel the difference with more torque present, even at lower revs.

Lightweight and compact

This engine features a smaller and lighter design than the traditional engine. This helps the car to be more efficient, but at the same time perform and handle better. And since the engine is compact, it makes room for other features like larger boots or trunks, more legroom, and more storage.

What are the different Boosterjet engines?

1.0-liter Boosterjet engine

This is the base engine in the Boosterjet Family. It is a 3-cylinder, 12 Valve, VVT, Direct-injection engine. It produces maximum power of up to 82 KW @5,500 rpm, and a maximum torque of up to 160 NM @1,500 to 4,000 rpm. Its fuel usage range between 5.1 and 5.2 liters per 100km. What’s more, its C02 emission lies between 119 and 121 g/km.

1.4-liter Boosterjet engine

This is a 4-cylinder, 16-valve, VVT, Direct-injection engine. It also delivers a maximum power of 103 KW @5,500 rpm and a maximum torque of 220 NM @1,500 to 4,000 rpm. It also uses 5.9 to 6.2 liters per 100km combined. Its CO2 emission rating is between 138 and 145 g/km.

1.4-liter Boosterjet Hybrid engine

The 1.4-liter Boosterjet Hybrid engine features a 4-cylinder, 16 Valve, VVT, and direct injection. It also delivers maximum power of 95 KW @5,500 rpm and a maximum torque of 235 NM @2,000 to 3,000 rpm. It also utilizes 5.0 to 6.0 liters per 100km combined. Its CO2 emission ranges between 112 and 136 g/km.

What makes the Suzuki Boosterjet engine stand out from other turbocharged engines?

Suzuki Boosterjet turbocharged engine is a direct fuel injection engine, using high-pressure multi-nozzle injectors for efficient fuel burning. In addition, it provides higher torque in lower revs, leading to lower fuel consumption and instantly available power.

Another advantage of this engine over its rivals is that it has lightweight, yet compact dimensions to fit into smaller compartments. Furthermore, its turbocharger exploits the energy of the exhaust gases to drive the compression of fresh air into the cylinders.

Finally, it has a minimal turbo lag that provides a quicker engine response for an acceleration request.

In short, the Boosterjet engine is a modern alternative to the naturally aspirated engine. This engine has small dimensions, a higher torque, low fuel usage, and improved driving pleasure.

FAQ

Is Suzuki Boosterjet reliable?

Yes, Suzuki Boosterjet is as reliable as other Suzuki engines. However, when it comes to maintenance, this engine might be slightly costlier to maintain because of the turbocharger.
