Peugeot e-208 vs e-2008

2023 Peugeot e-208

Peugeot is one of those brands that carefully balances being an economy affordable brand and having numerous features that can only be found in the premium segment. Long gone are the days when Peugeot was struggling to make a good car as virtually all current Peugeot models tend to be at the very top of their segments.

The Peugeot e-208 is a small city electric car built on the familiar Peugeot 208. The e-208 is the smallest, cheapest, and most common Peugeot electric car. It is available with either 2 or 4 doors and it uses the familiar 45kWh battery with 136hp. Design-wise, it is sleek, sporty, and good-looking and can rival many more expensive cars in this regard.

The Peugeot e-2008 can be viewed as a slightly more practical, larger, and more spacious version of the e-208, but it also costs more money than the e-208. Its crossover SUV design is more appealing to most buyers these days while the powertrain aspect of the e-2008 is identical to the one in the e-208.

In this article, we are going to compare the Peugeot e-208 vs e-2008 and tell you which one of these two is a better buy. We will compare them in regard to design, performance, comfort, feel, and efficiency. This means that you will have all the necessary information as to which one of these two to buy after reading this article!

Is Peugeot 1007 a good car?

Peugeot e-208 – The Smallest Peugeot EV

With a starting price of £31,345 in the UK, €32,250 in the Netherlands, and €35,350 in Germany, the e-208 represents the Peugeot entry point into EV ownership. The e-208 relies on a familiar Stellantis-sourced 45kWh battery with 136hp and 192lb-ft of torque. Power is being delivered via a single engine and is going only to the front two wheels.

The real-world range you can expect from the e-208 is between 125 and 265 miles depending on how you drive the car and how cold it is outside. The maximum charging rate the e-208 offers is 150kW on a DC charger which means that it takes around 26 minutes to charge it from 10% to 80% while slow 7.4 kW AC charging takes a little over 7 hours.

Design-wise, the e-208 portrays a sporty and urban image, especially thanks to a sharp interior and front headlights. Practicality is where the e-208 falls short as it isn’t particularly well designed for four adults.  Reliability is a bit of a mystery at this point as the e-208 has been around since the end of 2021/beginning of 2022.

Peugeot e-2008 – The Smallest Peugeot EV Crossover/SUV

The Peugeot e-2008 costs £35,150 in the UK, €37,530 in the Netherlands, and €37,900 in Germany. It also uses the familiar 45kWh battery and its entire powertrain spec sheet is identical to the one in the e-208. However, thanks to its bigger size and weight, the e-2008 can do between 110 miles and 235 miles of range maximum.

Fast-charging times are identical while slow AC 7.4 kW charging is also identical. Where the e-2008 differs the most is the design as it is a comparably larger crossover SUV with a higher center of gravity. This means that the e-2008 is easier to get in and out of and it offers better overall visibility.

  Common problems with Peugeot Bipper

It offers wide-opening doors with enough space for four adults, even for longer journeys. The interior is identical to the one in the e-208 which is a good thing as there is absolutely nothing wrong with the e-208s interior. Reliability is also a bit of a mystery as the e-2008 is as new as the e-208.

Conclusion – The e-2008 Is The Better Car

The Peugeot e-2008 costs almost £4,000 more than the e-208 in the UK while the e-2008 costs almost €5,000 more in the Netherlands, and €2,500 more in Germany. These are indeed huge differences in price and can be a dealbreaker to many, but they do make sense as the e-2008 does feel like a particularly noticeable upgrade in regards to style, space, practicality, and overall feel.

The differences in the maximum range aren’t overly noticeable and can easily be negated by driving a bit more sensibly. The interior space is much better with the e-2008 while the e-208 is better if you are often driving by yourself. All in all, the e-2008 is the better car because it offers better looks, more space, a quieter ride, better visibility, and better resale value.

Are Peugeot EVs Any Good?

Peugeot is on a quest to rapidly expand its EV lineup by continuously introducing newer and better iterations of previous hybrid and gasoline/diesel models. By 2024, Peugeot hopes to completely eliminate pure internal combustion engines which are likely going to be led by next-gen Peugeot electric cars that are going to get a new platform that is eventually going to discontinue the current 45kWh Stellantis battery.

Talking about the battery, Stellantis has made big moves recently by planning to invest $2.5 Billion in R&D money with Samsung for new battery plants in the US which are sure to push the brand’s ability to make better and more advanced battery tech in the future.

Should I Buy A Peugeot EV?

It is rather obvious that Peugeot isn’t the be-all-end-all manufacturer of EVs and that there are many more enticing options out there. However, where Peugeot makes a whole load of sense is the lower end of the spectrum which can also be benefited from various government grants for cheaper EVs.

This means that you can buy a Peugeot EV for a really affordable price, so much so that it makes no sense to go for a luxury EV ever.
