2023 Peugeot e-208

The Peugeot 208 is the smallest hatchback Peugeot makes while also being the most affordable one. However, Peugeot recently came out and said that all of their new cars from 2023 will be using some form of electric power. This means that all models will be either hybridized or hybridized and electrified.

In the case of the Peugeot e-208, it is both, and in this article, we will tell you all about 2023 Peugeot e-208. The 2023 model is getting technology and many other goodies from the larger Peugeot 308 which includes more potent engines, a slightly larger battery, and more than enough range for a subcompact city hatchback.

Design-wise, the e-208 will not differ too much from the regular combustion model, but those who know will spot the differences such as a blanked-out grille, different-looking wheels, and no exhaust pipes at the back. The interior of the 208 is already looking amazing, but the e-208 is also getting some more special touches throughout.

Reliability is surely going to be better than the combustion engine car as EVs tend to be more reliable as a whole. The price is going to go up slightly while practicality shouldn’t differ too much from the current model.

2023 Peugeot e-208 – The Powertrain

As far as the powertrain is concerned, the 2023 e-208 uses the same engines as the ones found in the larger e-308 EV hatchback. This means that the 2023 model is going to get around 15% more power compared to the previous model which is certainly a welcomed addition. As such, the new e-208 is going to offer 156hp and a 0-60mph time of under 8 seconds.

With up to 250 miles between charges, the new e-208 is certainly impressive, all thanks to a larger 51kWh battery. As far as charging is concerned, the new e-208 charges using the standard 11kW charger, but you can also take advantage of up to 100kW DC fast chargers which can replenish the battery from 20% to 80% in just 25 minutes.

All in all, these numbers aren’t all that special in the world of EVs these days, but no one can deny that this is more than enough for a small city car.

2023 Peugeot e-208 – Design and Driving

The current e-208 has only been revealed in 2019 which isn’t all that long ago. This means that the new e-208 is just going to refresh the exterior design with a few new features. The body-colored front grille and the blue “e” logo on the c pillar are there to designate that this is an electric version of the Peugeot 208.

The charging port is hidden on the left side where you can usually find the gas cap for a normal Peugeot 208. The rear end features another blue logo that signifies that this is an electric car. Also, you will not find any exhaust pipe opening anywhere.

The interior is the same as in the normal 208 which is no bad thing as the new 208 looks really good inside. With a tiny steering wheel and really good-looking widescreen displays, the e-208 feels fresh, sporty, and fairly classy as well.

The driving experience is on par with the normal 208, but you can feel the added weight. The good thing is that most of the weight is down low so it does not make the car roll into corners too much.

2023 Peugeot e-208 – Reliability and Common Issues

The previous generation of the e-208 experienced issues with the battery upfront which even prompted a recall. Besides that and a few negligible software glitches, the e-208 is a fairly dependable car overall. This makes perfect sense as EVs have fewer moving parts which means that they can last for longer and aren’t prone to breaking down nearly as often.

 2023 Peugeot e-208 – Value and Practicality

The 2022 e-308 costs around £30,195, but the 2023 model is likely to be a bit more expensive due to the larger battery and all the other goodies from the e-308. As these are fairly new and in relatively high demand, they don’t lose value all that quickly which means that value retention should be good for the first few years.

Practicality is not anything to brag home about as this is a subcompact hatchback after all. As such, you will be able to fit two large adults comfortably while four adults are going to be a bit of a squeeze.

FAQ Section

Should I buy the 2023 Peugeot e-208?

If you are interested in electric cars and want something small, nimble, and well-equipped, the Peugeot e-208 is actually a really good choice. Even though this segment is starting to become a bit crowded, the new e-208 is going to be the one with the largest battery in this segment which should attract lots of buyers.

The e-208 might not be the sportiest or the most powerful in its class, but it does offer one of the best-looking interiors, the aforementioned largest battery, and a really striking exterior design.

Which cars rival the Peugeot e-208?

The e-208 competes against the VW ID.3 which is the most popular car in this segment and is usually the most desirable one as well. The good thing about the ID.3 is that it also comes with a 77kWh battery which offers both more power and more range than the one in the e-208.

Granted, the e-208 is a smaller car with a lower starting price which means that not too many people cross-shop these, but with the upcoming price hikes for the new e-208, this could be an option. Other cars from this segment include the Vauxhall e-Corsa, the MG MG4, the Mini Electric, and the Fiat 500e.

Is the Peugeot 208 going to be available as a diesel in 2023?

No, the 2023 Peugeot 208 is completely abandoning diesel engines in favor of electrification and hybridization which is going to be applied across all Peugeot models. Even though diesel-powered 208s were way more popular a decade ago, the current gasoline engines are more popular and more refined overall.
