So, if you opt for the BMW X6 hybrid version, expect to have more fuel efficiency and emit less carbon to the environment. However, the BMW X6 ActiveHybrid models are more performance-oriented than focusing on the environment. 

Unlike the traditional BMW X6 variants, the hybrid versions have a better fuel efficiency, meaning that less fuel is used, saving some cash and the environment. Unfortunately, the only BMW X6 hybrid model that is offered in left-hand drive only.

Exterior appearance 

The BMW X6 hybrid model comes with an agile exterior that stands out compared to its competitors. What’s more, it has a large kidney grille, which is the most striking feature of the front end. Besides, it also comes with a sloped rear roofline that gives it a sporty look.

In terms of performance, the BMW X6 xDrive40i is one of the best-performing SUV coupes on the market. It is fitted with a 3.0-liter TwinPower Turbo inline 6-cylinder, 24-valve 335 hp engine with eBoost 48V mild-hybrid technology. 

Additionally, it comes with 8-speed automatic transmission with sport and manual shift modes. Besides, it also comes with brake energy regeneration, which helps to recharge the battery. Note that the engine delivers a maximum of 335 hp and 331 lb-ft of torque. It can accelerate from 0 to 60 in 5.3 seconds and has a top speed of 151 hp. 

Even though the BMW X6 M50i performs better than the BMW X6 xDrive40i hybrid model, the latter is more fuel-efficient than the former. Furthermore, it covers more distance than the BMW X6 M50i. 


Despite the BMW X6 xDrive40i hybrid variant not being very powerful, it still handles and performs outstandingly. Fitted with an all-wheel-drive system, this car is smooth, safe, and comfortable to drive. It is even more fun to drive than the BMW X5.

While the BMW X6 xDrive40i model goes for $67,300, its hybrid counterpart goes for a slightly higher price. Nonetheless, it is still cheaper than the BMW X6 M50i and X6 M, which are high-end trims. Also, if you add the Driver’s package, the cost increases.

For instance, the fastest BMW X6 (M50i) has a top speed of 155 mph and can accelerate from 0 t0 60 in 4.1 seconds, while the fastest BMW X5 (M) can accelerate from 0 to 60 in 3.8 seconds with a top speed of 177 mph. 

Will BMW go all-electric? 

At the moment, BMW has not announced whether they will go all-electric or not. Nonetheless, BMW North America Executive Vice President Shawn Bugbee said that at least 50% of all BMWs sold worldwide will be either plug-in hybrid or all-electric models by 2030. 


BMW X6 may not be all-electric, but they have a hybrid option. The BMW X6 sDrive40i and xDrive40i have hybrid options. However, the hybrid options do not perform as exceptional as gas-only variants, but they are more efficient and produce less pollution to the environment. 

Besides, they are also costlier than the gas-only variants. However, they are fixed with the same features and offer similar comfort.
