History of Suzuki Ignis

Suzuki Ignis is made by the Japanese automaker, Suzuki. This car has been in production from 2000 to date. However, in its early years (2000 to 2008), it was produced as a subcompact car. But from 2016 and beyond, it has been produced as a crossover-styled city car. 

Suzuki Ignis replaced the Suzuki Cultus in 2000. What’s more, the Cultus retailed under different names, including Suzuki Swift. On the contrary, while the Cultus-based Swift was replaced by the Ignis in Europe and Australasia, Japanese models were in fact badged Suzuki Swift.

Due to a venture project between Suzuki and General Motors, the Ignis, from 2001 also formed the basis of the Chevrolet Cruze. Furthermore, the Cruze was sold throughout Japan as a Chevrolet, with Australasian-market versions badged as Holden Cruze.

Suzuki offers Ignis in three different trim options, including the GL, GLX, and Shadow. They all feature a 1.2 DualJet engine with 1242 displacement. The engines also come with 4 cylinders and 16 valves. On top of that, this car delivers a maximum of 90 hp and 89 lb-ft of torque.

The petrol engine is the most efficient with a rating of between 50.4 and 58.0 mpg. On the other hand, the Hybrid petrol engine has an efficiency rating of between 48.6 and 54.1 mpg. 


Apart from having excellent fuel efficiency, this car also comes with some decent safety features. Some of the standard safety features are the immobilizer, front airbags, side airbags, and curtain airbags. In addition, it also comes with an anti-lock braking system, electronic brakeforce distribution, brake assist system, traction control, and vehicle stability control.
