Best used Jaguar to buy

Perhaps you don’t have the budget for a brand new Jaguar. Fortunately, you can find a previously used Jag for a fraction of the price. As long as it’s in good condition, it’s an easy way of saving while still enjoying a high-performance vehicle. So, which Jaguar is the best to buy used?

Some very good used Jaguar models to consider are the Jaguar XE, XJ, XJR, XFR/XF, and F-type. These vehicles were picked based on price, reliability, performance and reputation. However, as with any used car, the most important thing to look at is the car’s condition and previous history.

While Jaguars are known for producing classy performance, some aren’t problem-free. So, make sure you carefully consider the car before buying it second hand. Here’s a list of the best used Jaguars to buy.

Jaguar XE

The Jaguar XE is one of Jaguar’s top cars ever produced. It won the award as the most reliable family car in 2017. The luxury car features a beautiful design, powerful engine options, and dynamic handling. It can seat five passengers, and it’s available in four trims. The trims include the Jaguar base XE, XE Premium, XE Prestige, and XE-R sports.

A used XE sells for around $24,000 to $42,000, depending on the mileage, trim, year and condition of the car.

Powerful engine options

With the base model, you’ll get a 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbocharged engine with up to 240 horsepower. Take it up a little, and you’ll get to enjoy a 2.0 four-cylinder diesel engine outputting up to 180 horsepower. Want more power? Go for the 3.0 V6 supercharged engine with an output of 340 horsepower.

Tech and safety features

The Jaguar XE is fitted with good technological features; while some are standard, others are optional. The standard features include an 8-inch infotainment screen, stereo, Bluetooth compatibility, USB port, sunroof, and a push start button.

A WiFi hotspot, 17 speakers, voice recognition 1.2-inch touchscreen, a rearview camera, and parking aid are optional.

Some safety features integrated into the XE are:

  • Airbags
  • ESC
  • Brake assist
  • Traction control
  • Child safety locks

While the XE is known to be reliable, there have been recalls regarding fuel leaks. Diesel models built until June 2016 had fuel coolant leaks too.

The Jaguar XJ

Here comes another dynamic vehicle from Jaguar. The XJ features beautiful interior and exterior styling and cutting-edge technology. It is fast and somewhat reliable. Some people have complained of older XJs having a too-traditional look. However, many love them because of their sleekness and performance.

Affordable options

Some very reliable XJs include the X350, X308, and XJ6.  You can get a 1997 XJ for as low as $7,000; however, keep potential repair costs in mind. The 2009 X350 is also a very nice car. The aluminum-built light-weighted X350 costs around $13,000 or more depending on mileage and trim.

A 2002/2003 X308 would sell around $15,000 depending on trim and mileage. There are many other XJs with powerful performance and affordable prices, even more recent ones like the 2016 model. However, XJs generally sell between $6,000 to $67,000 depending on mileage, model, year, and trim.

Jaguar XJR

The XJR is another line of fast Jaguars cars.  They feature beautiful interior and exterior designs with powerful engine options. Their comfortable leather seats and a performance engine make the journey fun. XJRs also feature powerful systems and strong wheels for everyday commutes.

The Jaguar F type

A used F-type is an expensive option. Nevertheless, it offers what many drivers admire. Performance-wise, it is excellent. It also comes standardly equipped with many quality technological features. The interiors are perfectly styled and it has a mesmerizing exterior showing quality.

While F types do not hold a good record for reliability, they sure offer many features that a standard car should have.  A used 2014 F-type costs around $45,000. Some even cost as much as $60,000, depending on the condition, model, year, trim, and mileage.

Jaguar XFR/XF

A used XFR is a good bargain both in price (compared to a new one) and performance. It features a sleek exterior and beautiful interior, with powerful engine options. It is often considered to be an alternative to the BMW M5. A used 2013 model can be found for about $45,000. It could be more or less depending on mileage and trim.

The XF also offers excellent handling, technology, and great designs. It’s not the most reliable car option, but there are numerous XFs to choose from. Earlier models are cheaper, but generally, used XFRs cost around $6,000 to $58,000 depending on the specific car. A used 2011 wheelbase V8 cost around $25,000 or less.

Other options

Other good used Jaguars include the XK, which costs around $29,000. The price goes down with higher mileage and more years. The X-Type is another classy option for a low budget. The F-pace would have been a great option, but it’s simply too damn expensive.

FAQs

How long do Jaguars last?

Jaguars can last between 125k to 150k miles. If you’re lucky and careful, you can put as much as 200k miles on your Jag. This is why mileage should be important when buying a used Jaguar. If you buy a Jaguar at 130k miles, there is a strong possibility that you won’t use it for very long before it breaks down.

Why buy a used Jaguar?

Most times, people buy used Jaguars to save money, yet get all the benefits of that model. A used and new F-pace still have the same technology. So, you still get to enjoy what the original owner enjoyed. However, repair costs may arise since the car has already been around for a while.

What influences used Jaguar prices?

Mileage, model, year, the number of previous owners, accident history, and the general condition of the car determine the price. Generally, the higher the mileage, the lower the price. The earlier the model, the lower the price. The general car condition, like a number of faulty components, also plays a huge role.

What should I consider when buying a used Jaguar?

First, what you need the car for should be considered. Secondly, your budget. Also, check out the previous history about the model, such as notable faults and the number of recalls. The reliability of the model is also important. Check the mileage it has incurred. Most importantly, test the car yourself. It’s an easy way to get a feel for the car’s condition.
