Common problems with Audi TT

Audi TT problems

The Audi TT is a luxurious 2-door coupe made for those who want to enjoy a premium Audi experience with a dash of sportiness and style. Some deem the TT to be a woman’s car or a hairdresser’s car, but this is far from the truth as the TT is a really good car overall. It comes with great engine choices including a rapid 5-cylinder engine, AWD, and many luxurious features throughout.

When it comes to reliability, the TT is more or less like any other Audi out there. This means that it does cost quite a bit of money to maintain, but if you do maintain it, it is going to last. If you fail with your regular maintenance, the car is going to experience problems that could potentially ruin the entire ownership experience.

The most common Audi TT problems are associated with the steering system, the electronics, the engine, the suspension, and the brakes. Most of these are related to lackluster maintenance, but some of them are likely to happen even if you maintain the car adequately.

This comes with the territory as cars like this are packed with loads of features that are sadly expendable. Either way, this does not mean that the Audi TT is a bad car, quite the opposite, the TT can be a perfect car if you are after a 2-door stylish coupe.

Audi TT – Steering system issues

According to various Audi specialists, the TT sometimes suffers from steering system-related issues such as hearing various knocking sounds. This knocking sound typically becomes more exaggerated while turning, and the more sharply you turn, the more noticeable it becomes.

If you are one of those people who experienced this, you are likely aware that your bushings are worn out. Sometimes you will also have to check your control arms, arm bushings, and stabilizers as they can cause these issues as well. Thankfully, this is an easy fix and all Audi specialists should be able to do it in no time.

Audi TT – Electrical issues

We have already mentioned that the Audi TT is packed with loads of luxurious features throughout. This means that your daily driving experience is comfortable, safe, and really entertaining. However, these features are not made to last forever which means that the TT often experiences various software and hardware issues.

The windows may stop working, the infotainment system can glitch or freeze, the instrument cluster might misinform you, and the phone connectivity suite might fail completely. In order to fix those, you mostly need to do a software update, reset, or sometimes even replace a hardware component.

 Audi TT – Engine issues

The Audi TT is available with a few different engine options and the two most popular ones are the 2.0L 4-cylinder engine and the range-topping 5-cylinder turbo. These engines can sometimes suffer from misfiring which is typically related to ignition coils. The VAG is known to have engines that often do experience engine coil issues that need replacement.

Other engine-related issues are associated with the air meters which will also need replacing at some point. All in all, these engines are relatively dependable but are not completely free of faults.

Audi TT – Suspension issues

The Audi TT is known to often have issues with the anti-roll bushings, and the easiest way how one can notice this is by going over steep bumps and hearing knocking sounds. The only way to fix this is to replace the bushings completely and that should solve the issue for a long time.

If you prefer driving in a dynamic manner, you are likely going to encounter issues with the suspension because dynamic driving exerts quite a bit of stress on suspension components. This is the case with many performance-oriented cars because they are not made to last forever.

Audi TT – Issues with the brakes

According to many Audi TT owners, the brakes on the TT are prone to squealing, especially while they are cold. This does not necessarily affect braking performance, yet it does hamper comfort quite a bit. It is not the most enjoyable thing in the world to drive through town and hear your brakes squealing like crazy.

The easiest way to fix this is to replace the pads in due time as these are typically present when the pads are nearing the end of their lifetime.

Is Audi going to discontinue the Audi TT?

Audi has officially confirmed that they are going to discontinue the TT in 2023. Audi says that the TT simply isn’t what a modern buyer wants and that they are going to replace it with something a bit more emotional and larger, possibly with four doors.

The TT is always going to be the marmite car from Audi’s range because people either love it or hate it. However, no one can deny that the TT RS isn’t a really cool car and that the driving experience isn’t exciting.

Is the Audi TT a girl’s car?

So many people are hard struck by saying that cars such as the Audi TT, the VW Beetle, and the Fiat 500 are cars made for women. That comes as a bit of a surprise because the TT RS is available with a baby Audi R8 engine that makes upwards of 400hp and does 0-60mph in less than 4 seconds.

That is not to say that women don’t like sports cars, but calling the Audi TT a girl’s car is something only people who never drove the TT tend to say.
